Cardinals Head to Golden Flashes for Tuesday Showdown

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State Cardinals men's basketball team is back on the road Tuesday for a Mid-American Conference matchup with Kent State. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. from the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center. Earlier this season, the Golden Flashes defeated the Cardinals on a last-second shot.
Miryne Thomas produced a game-high 18 points to go along with his game-high two blocks, three rebounds, and two assists against Bowling Green the last time out. Tyler Cochran recorded 16 points with a game-high seven steals, which is a new career best, six rebounds and four assists. Payton Sparks tallied his ninth double-double behind 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Mickey Pearson Jr. compiled a career-high 13 points with five rebounds, one steal, and one block. Luke Bumbalough finished with 10 points, six rebounds, and one assist.
Sparks continues to lead the team with 13.4 points per game and 8.3 rebounds per contest. He is second on the team with 12 blocks. Cochran is averaging 12.1 points per game and 5.8 boards per game, both are second on the team, and leads the team with 54 steals. Bumbalough is averaging 11.4 points per contest and leads the team with 73 assists. Thomas leads the team with 15 blocks and is averaging 11.2 points per game. Demarius Jacobs is third on the team with 10 blocks.
In the matchup against Kent State earlier this season, Cochran finished with a team-high 23 points, which were the most for him in a BSU uniform. Jacobs recorded the most points of his Cardinal career with 16. With his 12 points, Sparks had recorded double digits in three straight and four of the last five games. Cochran and Sparks tied for a game-high nine rebounds. Thomas notched a team-best four assists and he added nine points. On the defensive end, Sparks, Jaylin Sellers, and Basheer Jihad each produced a blocked shot. Cochran, Sparks, and Pearson picked up one steal each.
The Golden Flashes lead the series 47-41 over the Cardinals. Kent State has won three of the last five meetings, including earlier this season 66-65 in Muncie. The Golden Flashes are 30-11 at home against the Cardinals.
Sincere Carry leads the Golden Flashes with 17.6 points per game, 123 assists, and is tied for the team lead in steals with 36. Malique Jacobs is second on the squad with 11.8 points per contest and is tied for the team lead in steals with 36. Jacobs paces Kent State on the glass with 7.4 rebounds per game. Justyn Hamilton has 37 blocked shots to lead the team, while Jacobs is the only other with double digits with 20.
