MUNCIE, Ind. - Much like the first match between No. 7 Ball State and Loyola Chicago Thursday night, Saturday's duel featured 34 ties and 14 lead changes. However, this time the Cardinals suffered a 3-1 defeat to the Ramblers inside Worthen Arena.
The Cardinals (9-2, 3-1 MIVA) and the Ramblers (8-5. 4-0 MIVA) went point-for-point throughout the entire contest. Ball State took a significant advantage over Loyola Chicago late in set one and went on to win it, 25-19.
After that, the Ramblers were dominate on both sides of the net while the Cardinals struggled, especially defensively. Service errors also became a problem category for BSU with a team total of 13 errors.
The other statical categories went in Ball State's favor, except for serves. Loyola tallied eight service errors while BSU had a season-low two. The Ramblers also won a few challenges to help lift Loyola Chicago past Ball State in the second and third frames.
In set four, Loyola took the early 12-9 edge over Ball State and never looked back. The Ramblers capitalized on Ball State's struggles and would take the fourth set, 25-20.
For the game, senior outside attacker Kaleb Jenness led the Cardinals again offensively with 18 kills, while defensively, senior middle blocker Felix Egharevba totaled eight blocks.
The Ball State men's volleyball team continues Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) action at home Thursday when it hosts Lindenwood at 7 p.m. ET.
