Opening Tip:
- Saturday's contest at Toledo marks the 87th time in program history the two schools have met with Toledo leading the all-time series record, 58-29. Ball State has won four of the last five meeting over the Rockets from 2019-present.
- Ball State and Toledo's first meeting ever was in 1980-81, that year the Cardinals defeated the Rockets by a score of 63-47.
- Ball State has won 11 of the last 17 meetings against the Rockets dating back to the 2013-14 season.
- The Cardinals fell to the Rockets in their first meeting this year losing to Toledo by a score of 55-58 in Worthen Arena on Jan. 19.
- Monday and Wednesday's contests against Western Michigan will be the 88th and 89th time in program history the two schools have met with Ball State leading the all-time series record, 48-39.
- Ball State owns a 28-8 ledger over WMU dating back to the 2004-05 season. Brady Sallee holds a 15-4 mark against the Broncos since the 2012-13 season.
Back-to-Back Broncos:
The Cardinals were originally supposed to open the Mid-American Conference season against Western Michigan this year on Dec. 29 at home but it was postponed due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. So, BSU and WMU rescheduled to play in Worthen Arena on Feb. 21 at 6:30 pm ET just two days prior to when the Cardinals are supposed to play in Kalamazoo, Mich. on Feb. 23 at 7 pm ET. Ball State has won four in a row over Western Michigan dating back to the 2019-20 season.
Road Warriors:
The Ball State women's basketball team has a 6-3 mark when playing on the road this season and are 4-3 in Mid-American Conference action. Under Sallee, the Cardinals have always been a strong road team as Sallee and the Cardinals have an overall road record over a 10 year span of 77-60 (.566).
Let the Countdown Begin:
The Mid-American Conference Tournament believe it or not is less than a month away. The tournament which takes place in Cleveland, Ohio at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse begins on March 9. The top eight seeds make it to the tournament for the quarterfinals which begin on Wednesday. The semifinals are played on Friday, March 11 with the championship game to be played on Saturday, March 12. As of right now, the Cardinals currently sit in sixth place and would face the No. 3 seed which is held by Akron as of Feb. 17, 2022.
Big Time Becki:
Freshman Ally Becki has been showing up big time for the Cardinals this season especially in Ball State's last five contests. In BSU's last six games, Becki has averaged 15.4 points per contest and 6.6 rebounds while dishing out 39 assists and knocking down 21 3-pointers.
Scouting Toledo:
- Toledo is paced offensively by Quinesha Lockett who is averaging 17.9 points per contest. Not far behind Lockett is junior Sophia Wiard who scores 12.0 points per ball game. Leading the Rockets defensively is Sammi Mikonowicz with 6.8 rebounds per game.
- Toledo has only lost one conference game this seaon and that was against Ohio on Jan. 26 by a score of 72-79.
- Head Coach Tricia Cullop earned her 400th career victory this year at Western Michigan on Jan. 8, 2022.
- The Cardinals have won their last two road games at Toledo after defeating the Rockets last season, 88-77 and in 2019-20 by a score of 60-58.
Scouting Western Michigan:
- Shane Clipfell first year as the head coach of the Broncos was also Brady Sallee's first year at Ball State. Clipfell was familiar with the MAC as he was an assistant coach at Eastern Michigan for nine seasons. Prior to Western Michigan, Clipfell was an assistant coach at Michigan State. Clipfell's best season with the Broncos was in 2014-15, leading WMU to an overall record of 20-13 and an 11-7 MAC ledger.
- The Broncos are led by Lauren Ross who is averaging 19.4 points and 5.3 rebounds currently right now for WMU. Behind her is Taylor Williams as she has been scoring on average 11,8 points per game and pulling down 8.9 rebounds.
- The Broncos are on a two game win streak after posting an 80-73 win at Ohio on Feb. 12 and a 72-64 victory Wednesday, Feb. 16 at home over Bowling Green. Prior to Monday, WMU will take on Northern Illinois in DeKalb, Ill. on Saturday, Feb. 19.
