Women's Basketball Opens 2022-23 Season on the Road Monday at Tennessee Tech

Opening Tip:
- Monday's game against Tennessee Tech will mark only the second meeting all-time in program history the two schools have met with Ball State leading the all-time series, 1-0. The Cardinals defeated the Golden Eagles under the direction of 11th-year head coach Brady Sallee by a score of 76-64 in Las Vegas on Nov. 30, 2013. Brady Sallee is familiar with Tennessee Tech as he coached in the Ohio Valley Conference at Eastern Illinois from 2004-12.
- Ball State recently was picked to finish second in the Mid-American Conference preseason poll while Tennessee Tech was picked first in the preseason Ohio Valley Conference.
- Tennessee Tech finished the 2021-22 season with an overall mark of 21-11 and a 14-4 OVC ledger. The Golden Eagles return eight letter winners from last seasons squad and two out of three starters along with four newcomers. The Golden Eagles advanced to the OVC Tournament title game but fell to Belmont by a score of 51-29. Tennessee Tech competed at the postseason WNIT losing in the second round.
- Ball State ended its 2021-22 season with an 20-13 record and went 11-8 in the MAC. The Cardinals ended last season with a successful run at the 2022 MAC Tournament in Cleveland by knocking off No. 4 seed Northern Illinois and No. 1 seed Toledo to reach the title game where Ball State fell to No. 2 seed Buffalo, 79-75. Ball State also made its seventh WNIT appearance under current head coach Brady Sallee and 10th overall.
- The Cardinals will host IU Southeast in their home opener on Monday, Nov. 14 at 11 a.m. ET in Worthen Arena for Ball State's annual "Field Trip Day". The Cardinals would like to welcome local schools across Delaware County and even further to come cheer us on to a Cardinal victory that day. There will be in game actives and fun to be had by all. For the second-straight season, the Cardinals are forgoing "traditional" positions and using their own such as backs, crashers, and keys, to bring a sense of team unity. That system proved to be the lift Ball State needed, especially with so many new faces on the court.
Sallee Enters Year 11:
Sallee enters his 11th season at the helm of the Cardinals, already the winningest coach in program history. He touts a record of 183-132 (.580) in just 10 seasons and has guided Ball State to seven postseason Women's National Invitation Tournaments, a WNIT Final 16 appearance, a Mid-American Conference West Division title (2014), nine MAC Tournament appearances and five 20-plus win seasons, a feat no head coach at Ball State had done before him.

College Insider:
The Ball State Cardinals were ranked in the College Insider Women's Preseason Mid-Major Top-25 Poll. Only three teams from the MAC earned the honor. Ball State was ranked No. 14 beating out Kent State from the MAC which was ranked 20th. Tennessee Tech was ranked 17th.
