Field Hockey Faces Top-Seeded Miami at MAC Tourney Friday
November 02, 2022 | Field Hockey
MUNCIE, Ind. - After posting one of the most successful seasons in over a decade under first-year head coach Caitlin Walsh, the Ball State field hockey team earned the fourth seed in this week's 2022 Mid-American Conference Tournament. The Cardinals are set to face the top-seeded Miami RedHawks Friday, Nov. 4 at 11:30 a.m. in Oxford, Ohio.
Ball State and Miami will meet again just one week after playing one another in their MAC regular season finale. The RedHawks won that contest at the Briner Sports by a score of 7-0.
The Cardinals finished the regular season with an overall record of 7-11, while owning a 4-3 MAC ledger. The RedHawks were crowned the MAC regular season champions again after finishing the season with an 11-7 overall mark and a 6-1 league record.
This marks the first appearance in the MAC Tourney for Ball State since the 2019 season. That year the Cardinals were also the No. 4 seed falling to the No. 5 seed Longwood by a 0-3 decision. Ball State has a rich tradition at the MAC Tournament winning 10 titles with the last one being in 1997. That season, Ball State knocked off Miami and Kent State for the crown.
Ball State has not won a MAC Tournament contest since 2006 which came ironically against Miami. That year the Cardinals defeated the RedHawks 3-0 in the semifinals.
A Ball State win will advance the Cardinals to the championship game of the Mid-American Conference Tournament Saturday for the first time since 2006 and will play either No. 2 Kent State or No. 3 Appalachian State.
