Westfield, Ind. standout set to be a Cardinal in 2023
MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State men's golf has announced the signing of Alec Cesare to its signing class. Cesare is set to enroll and compete with the Cardinals in the fall of 2023.
"Alec is a young man we targeted from the start as being our guy in this class and I am so excited we got him," head coach Mike Fleck said. "I have great respect for how he has put himself in the position of being one of the best players in our state, a highly ranked player on JGS (Junior Golf Scoreboard) and a recognized player on the national level. He has that chip-on-his-shoulder mentality and is a fierce and spirited competitor who knows how to win.
"Alec comes from a supportive and competitive family as well as a very successful Westfield High School program. All these things added up to us wanting him to become a Ball State Cardinal. Alec is going to shape the future of our program and I am excited for his career as a Ball State student-athlete to get going next fall."
Cesare is ranked as the No. 2 player in the state and No. 11 player in the Midwest in the 2023 class, according to JGS.
The Westfield, Ind. native is a First Team All-State and three-time all-conference selection during his prep career while leading the Shamrocks to sectional championships, regional championships and a state runner-up finish.
Cesare has racked up over 35 wins on the junior golf circuit since 2007 and was a finalist at the Drive, Chip and Putt challenge at Augusta National in 2019.
In his latest amateur events in 2022, Cesare made both cuts at the Indiana Amateur and the Indiana Open. Cesare finished in a tie for 11th out of 156 at the Indiana Amateur and in a tie for 35th out of 156 at the Indiana Open.
Cesare was also a four-time participant at the U.S. Kids World Golf Championship and the Future Masters.
