Women's Basketball Hosts IU East For Sixth Annual "Field Trip Day" Monday

Opening Tip:
- Monday's game against IU East will mark the first time in program history that these two teams have met.
- Today's contest marks the sixth annual Field Trip Day. The Cardinals are 5-0 on Field Trip Day with wins against Milwaukee (84-75 OT), Arkansas Pine Bluff (88-60), Austin Peay (89-57), Bowling Green (77-70) and Xavier (70-49).
- Ball State is looking for its first win of the season after dropping its opener at Tennessee Tech by a score 63-68 last Monday. The Cardinals rallied from 12 points down at the start of the final stanza to give itself a chance to win at the Eblen Center but fell to the Golden Eagles in the final minute. For the game, Anna Clephane led the Cardinals with 12 points while newcomers Alex Richard and Sydney Shafer each had 11 points apiece. Senior Annie Rauch rounded out the double-figure scoring with 10 points while defensively, sophomore Marie Kiefer pulled down 10 rebounds.
- IU East has started the season off 0-6. Kennedy Griffin leads the Redwolves averaging 15.8 points per game while Addie Brown is scoring 12.4 points per contest.
- After today's contest, the Cardinals remain home in Worthen Arena when Ball State hosts in-state rival Butler Thursday, Nov. 17 at 6:30 pm ET. Thursday's game marks the 29th all-time meeting between Ball State and Butler in women's basketball. The Cardinals have won their last two meetings against the Bulldogs a 70-56 victory in Indianapolis, Nov. 16,. 2021 and a 74-70 win in Worthen Arena Nov. 23, 2019.
- IU East will be the first of four schools from the state of Indiana that the Cardinals will face this season. Ball State will also play Butler (Nov. 17), at Notre Dame (Nov. 20) and IUPUI (Dec. 8).
Becki Preseason All-MAC:
Sophomore guard Ally Becki was tabbed to the Preseason All-MAC First Team. Becki started every game for the Cardinals last season as a true freshman while earning spots on the All-MAC Freshman Team and the All-MAC Tournament squad. She scored a personal best 27 points in MACtion at Ohio (2/2/22) and reached double figures in scoring 18 times last season. Becki made the ESPN top 10 plays after nailing a half-court shot at the buzzer to enter intermission against Buffalo on Jan. 26, helping Ball State take the lead over the Bulls at the break and later earn the victory. On Feb. 8, Becki earned MAC Player of the Week honors after averaging 21.0 points per game. She shot 53 percent from the field and dished out 8.0 assists per contest, helping Ball State extend its winning streak to five games with victories over Ohio and Bowling Green. She also recorded a double-double at Kent State with 12 points and 12 rebounds on Feb. 12. Becki finished the season averaging 11.1 points per game, 5.9 rebounds, and 4.5 assists.
Second Half Cardinals:
Although the Cardinals lost in their season opener the stats proved that they could be a second half team this season. Ball State outscored Tennessee Tech 39-29 in the second half of Monday's games. The Cardinals best quarter was the fourth period when Ball State outpaced Tennessee Tech, 16-9. The Cardinals also won the rebounding category over the Golden Eagles, 48-28.
Next Game:
After tonight's contest the Cardinals are set to host in-state rival Butler Thursday, Nov. 17 at 6:30 p.m. ET. Ball State will head back onto the road Sunday, Nov. 20 as Ball State plays at Notre Dame at 4 pm ET.
