S&D Hosts Eastern Illinois Friday, Women Travel to BGSU Saturday

MUNCIE, Ind. - - It will be another busy weekend for the Ball State swimming & diving program starting Friday, when the men and women host Eastern Illinois at 6 p.m. in the Lewellen Aquatic Center for its first home dual meet of the 2022-23 campaign.

Both teams started the season on a strong note last Saturday, with the women placing second and the men taking third at the Indiana Intercollegiates hosted by Purdue. The women won five events and scored 13 top five efforts, while the men won one event and logged 14 top five efforts with both battling in eight-team fields.

In the latest NCAA Division I Top Time Rankings as compiled by CollegeSwimming.com, the Cardinals have 10 student-athletes ranked in scoring position in their respective events after the first meet of the season.

Junior Joey Garberick is BSU's top-ranked swimmer, holding the top spot in the MAC in the 100 breaststroke with his time of 55.20.

MAC AWARD WINNERS:
One week into the season and the Cardinals have already claimed one MAC award, with freshman Payton Kelly named the MAC Women's Swimmer of the Week after her performance at the Indiana Intercollegiates.

Kelly, who will be competing at the 2022 FINA Swimming World Cup at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre this weekend, won both the 50 (23.45) and 100 (51.55) freestyle events and swam the first leg of the 200 freestyle relay (1:35.05).
