Women’s Tennis Concludes Play At MTSU Invite

MURFEESBORO, Tenn. - The Ball State women's tennis team ended its three-day weekend play at the Middle Tennessee State University Invite Sunday afternoon after playing one round of singles and one round of doubles.
In singles, Mariya Polishchuk took down Chattanooga's Caroline Gibbens by a score of 6-2, 6-4. Amy Kaplan won her match in straight sets as well over UTC's Nicole Abel 6-4, 6-2 and teammate Emma Peeler followed suite in dominating fashion against her respective opponent, 6-3, 6-1.
Rounding out singles action was Jessica Braun who registered a 6-4, 7-6 (5) win over Coco Bosman. Livia Lukacs managed a two-set tie break victory versus Lucia Garrigues-Melendez. Ella Hazelbaker and Jacqueline Pearsall also took home victories today.
In doubles, Ball State took three of the five courts from host Middle Tennessee State University. The duo of Kaplan and Lukacs defeated Sana Garakani and Muskan Gupta, 6-3 while Braun and Elena Malykh won a close competition over Noelle Mauro and Lilly-Sophie Schmid, 7-6 (5). Emily Desai alongside partner Planinsek found success on their respective court beat Karen Yibirin and Camila Barragan, 6-1.
The Ball State women's tennis team will take a few weekends off before returning to the court on Oct. 19 at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Ohio Valley Regionals which is being held at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
