October 13, 2022 | Field Hockey
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team will head to the state of Kentucky for two games this weekend beginning with Mid-American Conference action against Bellarmine on Friday at 1 pm ET. The Cardinals will then close the two-game weekend on Sunday when Ball State faces its third top 10 ranked opponent No. 7 Louisville at 2 pm ET. Both contests will be played at Trager Stadium.
Â
Ball State (6-6, 3-1 MAC) and Bellarmine (4-9, 2-2 MAC) have met a total of six times with the Cardinals leading the all-time series 4-2. Four of the six meetings have been in Muncie. The last time the Cardinals defeated the Knights was a 3-1 take down on April 3, 2021, at the Briner Sports Complex. Bellarmine won both meetings last season — a 2-1 victory over BSU in Louisville, Ky., on August 29, 2021, and a 2-1 win in Muncie on Oct. 15, 2021. Ball State will see a familiar face on the sidelines at Bellarmine as the Knights head coach is former Ball State field hockey alum Devanny Boisvert who played for the Cardinals from 2008-2011.
Â
After Friday, Ball State will then take on No. 7 Louisville on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action. Ball State leads the all-time series over Louisville, 15-13 with UofL winning the last seven meetings. Before joining the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), Louisville was a member of the Mid-American Conference in field hockey from 1994 until 2004. The last meeting between the two schools was on March 7, 2021, resulting in a 5-0 loss for Ball State in Muncie.Â
Â
The Ball State field hockey team will remain on the road next weekend at well when the Cardinals play at Appalachian State (Oct. 21) and Davidson College (Oct. 23).
