October 11, 2022 | Field Hockey
CLEVELAND, Ohio - Ball State field hockey freshman Fleur Knopert was tabbed the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week for her standout performance against Ohio University and Michigan State last weekend.Â
Â
Fleur shared the award with Longwood's Floor Schouten.Â
Â
"I'm excited for Fleur to receive offensive player of the week," Ball State head field hockey coach Caitlin Walsh said. "She has been a key player in generating a lot of our attack this season. She is a skilled striker who can consistently find the back at the cage. Fleur is a hard worker, and this is a well-deserved honor."
Â
Knopert in exciting fashion came to the rescue for the Cardinals in overtime against the Bobcats. Knopert scored the game-winner to push Ball State past Ohio, 2-1, last Friday afternoon at the Briner Sports Complex. Knopert also added the tying goal against Big Ten foe Michigan State on Sunday to make the score 3-3 prior to intermission before falling to the Spartans, 5-3.Â
Â
This season, Knopert leads the Cardinals offensively with eight goals for the season which is the best showing for a player since 2010. She also leads the squad this season in assists (5) and shots on goal (17).Â
Â
The Ball State field hockey team returns to the field Friday when it faces Bellarmine at Trager Stadium in Louisville, Ky., at 1 pm ET. The Cardinals will also remain in Louisville to take on UofL on Sunday at 2 pm ET.
