Cardinals Cruise Past Chippewas

Ball State dishes out 20 assists on 22 made field goals to earn home conference win
MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State women's basketball team dished out 20 assists on 22 made field goals to highlight a 57-45 Mid-American Conference win against Central Michigan Saturday afternoon.
The Cardinals (10-7, 3-4 MAC) were paced by Thelma Dis Agustsdottir's 18 points, all of which came in the first half. The junior also contributed seven rebounds, two assists and two steals. Chyna Latimer also reached double figures with 12 points and matched Agustsdottir's line of seven rebounds, two assists and two steals.
All Becki guided the offense with a team-best eight assists to go along with nine points. In addition, Sydney Freeman contributed five assists and three rebounds.
Marie Kiefer led the way on the glass with 11 rebounds to highlight Ball State's 47-38 advantage on the boards. She also blocked four shots.
Defensively, the Cardinals held the Chippewas (3-14, 1-7) to shoot just 26.2 percent (16-of-61) from the floor.
Ball State got off to a hot start, scoring 13 of the game's first 16 points, with Augustsdottir chipping in 10 to begin the contest. The Cardinals would hold a 17-8 lead after the first quarter.
Central Michigan battled back in the second quarter and cut the deficit to as little as four with Ball State holding a 28-24 lead at the break.
Following a back-and-forth open to the third, the Cardinals started to gain separation as a pair of threes from Becki helped push the lead to eight at 43-35. A layup from Annie Rauch just before the end of the quarter gave Ball State a 10-point lead with 10 minutes remaining.
Rauch would help push the margin to as much as 17 with consecutive baskets following a 3-pointer from Estel Puiggros to begin the fourth quarter with a 7-0 run.
The Cardinals kept the Chippewas at bay and held on for the 57-45 victory.
Ball State returns to the court Monday, Jan. 24 for a MAC contest vs. Miami. Tip time is set for 6:30 p.m. ET inside Worthen Arena.
