Women's S&D To Battle Eastern Michigan Saturday

MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State women's swimming & diving heads back out on the road Saturday to face off against Eastern Michigan for the first full meet of the spring portion of the 2021-22 season.

The Cardinals and Eagles will square off at the University of Michigan's Canham Natatorium in Ann Arbor, Michigan at 3 p.m.

It will be the third Mid-American Conference matchup for the Cardinals (2-1, 1-1 MAC) this season, with the team topping Toledo by a score of 172-128 in its latest league outing Nov. 6.

The last time the Ball State women's swimming & diving team competed as a squad was Nov. 18-20, when it placed second among nine teams at the IUPUI House of Champions meet.

Sophomore distance freestyle specialist Marcella Ribeiro enters the stretch run of the season leading the team with six individual event victories so far this season. Freshman Hannah Jones (backstroke, freestyle, butterfly), junior Apsara Sakbun (sprint freestyle) and senior Alex Bader (breaststroke) are close behind with four individual event victories apiece.

In the latest USA Swimming Mid-American Conference Top Times report, the Ball State women's squad has 12 student-athletes ranked in scoring position in their respective events through the first five meets of the season.

CRUSING TO A PROGRAM RECORD:
Ball State's swimmers notched their first program record of the season on the final day of the IUPUI House of Champions (Nov. 20) … The quartet of freshman Hannah Jones, freshman Gracey Payne, senior Alexa McDonald, and junior Apsara Sakbun combined for a time of 3:23.46 to break the program record in the 400 freestyle relay to cap an amazing three days of action for the women's swimming & diving program.

NCAA ZONE DIVING CUTS:
Freshman Ashleigh Provan is making an immediate impact on the diving boards for the Cardinals, having achieved NCAA Zone Diving Championship cuts on both the 1M and 3M boards … In Thursday's diving-only dual at IUPUI, Provan earned her second NCAA Zone Diving qualifying mark of the season, taking top honors on the 3M board with a career-best score of 293.76 … Earlier in the season, Provan turned in a 1M NCAA Zone Diving qualifying mark of 276.00 n her Lewellen Aquatic Center debut versus Ohio (Oct. 30).
