
WVB's Vinson Named MAC West Defensive Player of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio - - For her part in helping guide the Ball State women's volleyball team to the TRU By Hilton Dayton Beavercreek Invitational tournament championship, sophomore libero Kate Vinson has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Defensive Player of the Week.

A two-time MAC West Division Setter of the Week honoree last season, Vinson earns defensive player of the week honors for the first time in her career after averaging 5.58 digs per set to help the Cardinals to a 3-0 record last weekend.

She started the tournament with 22 digs in Ball State's four-set victory over host Wright State, while also serving up her first ace of the season. Vinson followed with 16 digs and a 1.000 (17-for-17) reception percentage in the sweep of DePaul, before closing the weekend with a career-high 29 digs and a .941 (48-for-51) reception percentage in the five-set victory over Marshall.

Overall, she collected 67 digs and earned a .948 (73-for-77) reception percentage for the weekend.

After her solid performance at the TRU By Hilton Dayton Beavercreek Invitational, Vinson ranks third in the league with a 4.73 digs-per-set average this season. In addition, her 123 total digs tie for first in the MAC, while her 29 digs versus the Herd tie as the third-most in a match this season.

The Ball State women's volleyball team takes a perfect 7-0 record into this weekend's Cy-Hawk Series Tournament with matches versus Iowa State (Noon ET / 11 a.m. CT) and host Iowa (8 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. CT) scheduled for Friday. The Cardinals close the tournament Saturday with versus Syracuse (Noon ET / 11 a.m. CT).
