Field Hockey Celebrates Labor Day Weekend with Three Games
September 02, 2021 | Field Hockey
MUNCIE, Ind. - - It will be a busy Labor Day weekend for the Ball State field hockey team which has three games on the docket over the four-day weekend. First up is a Friday showdown at Lock Haven (Sept. 3).
From there, the Cardinals close a three-game road swing with a Noon contest Sunday at St. Francis (Sept. 5), before driving back from the state of Pennsylvania and returning to the Briner Sports Complex for a 4 p.m. Labor Day showdown against St. Louis.
Friday's contest will be Locke Haven's season opener, while the Cardinals have already had two games under their belt. The Bald Eagles will have to look out for Ball State's tenacious defense as the Cardinals held nationally-ranked Ohio State to only one goal in its season-opener last Friday (Aug. 27).
The Cardinals also were aggressive in their defensive stance at Bellarmine last Sunday (Aug. 29). Although the Cardinals did drop both of those contests, they were within inches of winning both games.Â
Ball State and Saint Francis last met in 2018, resulting in a 4-0 loss for the Cardinals at a neutral site. But fear not Cardinal fans, because in 2017 when BSU last played in College Station, Pa., Ball State took down the Red Flashes by a score of 2-0. Â
Ball State closes its three-game week at the Briner Sports Complex hosting Saint Louis for a Labor Day matinee.  Ball State has shutout the Billikens in the last two meetings, a 5-0 contest in 2017 and a 3-0 victory in 2019, with both games being played in Muncie.Â
