11 Field Hockey Players Earn Academic All-MAC Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Ball State field hockey program placed 11 student-athletes on the 2021 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team as announced by the league office.
Of Ball State's 11 honorees, two finished their Ball State careers as four-time award winners: Sierra Jefferson and Rachel Pereira.
Earning honors for the third time in their careers are Abby Ferenczy and Jenna McKune, while Callie Rumbaugh and Audrey Tabor claimed their second career awards.
Ball State also had five first-time honorees including Gina Caravaglia, Alex Conrad, Caitlyn Grodzicki, Lexi Kansky and Libby Kraus.
A total of 77 student-athlete earned the Academic All-MAC distinction by maintaining at least a 3.2 GPA and participating in at least half of the team's contests for the season. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
Overall, the Ball State field hockey program finished the 2021 spring semester with a 3.603 team grade point average, with 17 members of the squad maintaining at least a 3.5 GPA.
On the field, the Cardinals continued to improve under Bernthal's guidance and are driving towards the goal of rebuilding the historic program. Ball State ended the season with six victories, which included wins over fellow MAC schools' Appalachian State, Ohio University, Longwood, Bellarmine and Central Michigan. The team also limited opponents to 1.81 goals per game for its best showing on defense since allowing a 1.78 average in 2002.
