May 02, 2021 | Baseball
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - After winning the first three games of the series, the Ball State baseball team dropped Sunday's finale at Bowling Green 8-5. Ball State had won eight games in a row before falling on Sunday.Â
The Cardinals trailed 1-0 when Ryan Peltier hit a 3-run homer in the top of the 5th inning to give BSU the lead. Moments later, Bowling Green (12-22, 10-14) scored six runs in the pivotal inning to take control of the game. The two teams traded runs late to provide the final margin.
BOMBS AWAY: Peltier's blast, his third of the season, gave the Cardinals a brief lead. Decker Scheffler hit a solo home run late in the game, his second of the year.
PAIR OF EIGHTS: Sunday's loss ended Ball State's win streak at eight games. It was the team's second streak of eight straight wins this year.
BIG PICTURE: Central Michigan and Ball State have emerged as the top two teams in the MAC. Central swept four games from Miami over the weekend and now have a game edge on the Cardinals with 16 games remaining in the season.
UP NEXT: That sets up a high-leverage series next weekend when Ball State travels to Central Michigan for four games. BSU is 19-5 in MAC play and CMU is 20-4. The series begins Friday, May 7 at 3 p.m. Start times for Saturday and Sunday are set for 1 p.m.
