Potts honored for second straight year along with Mason, Smith and Simmons
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State had four players named to the United Soccer Coaches Association Division I Women's All-Midwest Region teams.
Â
The Cardinals set a school record for most all-region selections. The program previously had three players honored three times – 2006, 2015 and 2016.
Â
Nicky Potts, Tatiana Mason and Lexy Smith earned second-team all-region honors, while Emily Simmons was named to the third team. The quartet helped Ball State to the MAC West Division championship and a spot in the league's title game.
Â
Potts, an all-region midfielder for the second year in a row, led the Cardinals with four assists and also added a goal in this shortened spring season. The redshirt junior from Nuneaton, England, ran her career totals to 10 goals and seven assists.
Â
Mason led Ball State with four goals in 10 games and also added a pair of assists for a team-best 10 points. The junior forward from Ann Arbor, Michigan, is the Cardinals' active leader in both goals and assists with 12 each for her career.
Â
Smith and Simmons helped to anchor a Ball State back line that surrendered only nine goals in 10 games and limited opponents to an average of 3.5 shots on goal per game.
Â
Smith, a junior from Rochester Hills, Michigan, started all 10 games and played every minute while also adding three assists. Simmons, a senior from New Hamburg, Ontario, started the first six games before her season was cut short by injury.
Â
Ball State finished the season with a record of 6-3-1 after winning five of its final six regular season contests to secure its spot in the MAC Championship game for the second time in the past three seasons.
