Â
When Ball State and Western Michigan met at the Briner Sports Complex just three short weeks ago, the stats were lopsided but the score was not.
Â
In fact, there was no score. BSU played the Broncos to a 0-0 draw despite advantages of 16-3 in shots and 9-1 in corner kicks.
Â
The Cardinals came away from that first meeting feeling like they didn't get all they could have out of it. They're hoping for more this go around.
Â
Ball State visits Western Michigan for this one, the second of two scheduled meetings between the teams. The Cardinals have won three straight since that initial matchup to move into first place in the MAC West Division standings.
Â
Ball State (4-1-1) will be well rested for Sunday's contest. A scheduled midweek game at Toledo was canceled because of a COVID-19 issue with the Rockets program, so the Cardinals have not played since a 2-1, overtime win over Central Michigan on March 26.
Â
Nicky Potts, the reigning MAC West Division Offensive Player of the Week, assisted on both goals against CMU -- one for Chelcy Ralph in the first half and the other for Tatiana Mason to win the game in overtime.
Â
Western Michigan (3-2-2), which started its season fast to hold the early division lead, then went winless over a stretch of four games. The Broncos got back in the win column Thursday with a 2-1 victory over Northern Illinois behind a pair of goals from Bailey Korhorn, her second and third of the season to match Suzuna Shibukawa for the most on the team.
Â
Sunday's game is the first of three remaining on Ball State's regular season schedule. The Cardinals are slated to play Thursday at Northern Illinois and then host Eastern Michigan on April 11. The East and West division champions will meet April 17 in a MAC Championship game.
