Men’s Volleyball Pulls Off Five Set Thriller At No. 10 McKendree

LEBANON, Ill. - The Cardinals 11-7, 8-5 MIVA) closed out their Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association regular season on a high note after defeating No. 10 McKendree (10-5, 9-5 MIVA) on the road Saturday night in a five-set thriller (20-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-27, 15-13) at Harry M. Statham Sports Center.
It was the best of both worlds tonight because not only did the Cardinals get the win, but they also locked up the No. 4 seed in next weekend's 2021 MIVA Tournament quarterfinals and will now get to host the fifth-seeded Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday, April 10 in Worthen Arena.
"Tonight, was a strong performance by our team," Ball State head coach Joel Walton said. "Many people contributed, and our defense was significantly improved compared to last night. Egharevba's 16 blocks and Reardon's 21 kills both helped push us past McKendree."
It was definitely a total team effort tonight but what stood out the most was the Cardinals' defense holding McKendree to a .138 attack percentage for the night. BSU also collected 24 blocks to protect its side of the net.
Senior Blake Reardon came through offensively leading his squad with 21 kills off of 35 attacks for an impressive .457 hitting percentage. Kaleb Jenness also reached double figures in kills with 16.
Defensively, Felix Egharevba had a career best 16 total blocks which was also a program record for most blocks in a single game. He also set the record for the most block assists in a single game as with with 14. Both Quinn Isaacson and Nick LaVanchy turned in double digits in defensive digs with 14 and 12, respectively. Issacson also dished out 52 assists.
The Ball State men's volleyball continues its quest for a MIVA Tournament title when it hosts its rival No. 5 Ohio State on Saturday, April 10 in Worthen Arena with the time to be determined at a later date.
