Polishchuk Earns MAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
April 28, 2021 | Women's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. - Freshman Mariya Polishchuk of the Ball State women's tennis team earned Mid-American Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.
Polishchuk played a big role in the Cardinals success this past weekend helping Ball State etch its name into the Ball State record books once again Sunday afternoon at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center, claiming the program's third Mid-American Conference regular season championship in the past five years.
Polishchuk went 2-0 at the No. 3 singles position this past weekend posting wins over Miami and Western Michigan. She took down both of her respective opponents from each school in straight sets.
After opening Friday's play with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over the RedHawks Melati Devi she then closed the weekend with a 6-0, 6-2 take down against the Broncos Ana Guadiana. With the wins, Polishchuk helped Ball State extend its win streak to 21 while also remaining undefeated in MAC play with an 12-0 ledger.
The Cardinals locked up a birth to the NCAA Championship for only the second time in program history after claiming the MAC title on Sunday.
Ball State will wrap up its 2021 season this weekend when it hosts Northern Illinois on Friday at 1 p.m. ET before traveling to Toledo on Sunday for another 1 p.m. ET first serve.
