Field Hockey Celebrates Six Seniors Friday At Home Against Miami
April 23, 2021 | Field Hockey
MUNCIE, Ind. – Prior to today's contest against No. 17 Miami, the Cardinals paid tribute to their six seniors, goalie Grace Chavez (Norfolk, Va./Matthew Fontaine), forward Abby Ferenczy (Williamsville, N.Y./South), forward Sierra Jefferson (Bethlehem, Penn./Arthur L Johnson), midfielder Jenna McKune (Louisville, Ky./Assumption), defender Rachel Pereira (Howick, South Africa, St. Anne's Diocean College) and defender Audrey Tabor (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy).
Ball State (6-9, 4-7 MAC) unfortunately fell to the RedHawks (12-1, 9-0 MAC) by a score of 5-0 Friday afternoon at the Briner Sports Complex.
Miami scored two goals in the first half and then added three more after intermission.
The Cardinals drew four penalty corners from the RedHawks having two scoring opportunities in the third and fourth periods but struggled to connect with the cage with both shots coming from Pereira.
As one of the top goalies in the Mid-American Conference, sophomore Wietske Overdijkink registered a game-high seven saves while her teammate Tabor tallied two defensive saves for BSU.
The Ball State field hockey team will have one more opportunity to showcase their ever- growing improvement over the course of the year when it hosts Miami Saturday at the Briner Sports Complex in the Cardinals season finale.
As a reminder, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and resulting department of health guidance, there will be no general public attendance at Ball State field hockey home games this spring.
