Men’s Volleyball Suffers Tough Road Loss At No. 5 Lewis
March 05, 2021 | Men's Volleyball
ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Playing on the road is never easy, especially after the Cardinals haven't traveled in over month. Unfortunately, Ball State (7-3, 4-2 MIVA) came out a little rusty, falling to No. 5 Lewis (9-2, 4-2 MIVA) Friday night in Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) action by a score of 3-0 in Neil Carey Arena.
Things did not go the way the Cardinals had planned at the start of the contest, as the Flyers moved quickly to take the first set, 25-17. But that didn't seem to phase BSU the remainder of the match.
Although the score sheet may have shown otherwise, the Cardinals put up a good fight against Lewis in sets two and three.
The second frame consisted of 15 ties and four lead changes between the Cardinals and the Flyers. A kill from Blake Reardon late in the second set followed by a nice defensive play at the net from Reardon and Felix Egharevba pushed BSU's lead to four (17-13). But the Flyers fought back taking the next four points to tie the match at 17 apiece.
The remainder of the second period was an up and down affair with the Flyers coming out on top 25-23.
After that, the final stanza mimicked the previous set as both teams knotted the match nine times. A kill from Egharevba made the score 17-17 but missed plays and hitting errors cost the Cardinals their ability to comeback.
For the game, Kaleb Jenness led BSU on both sides of the net with 13 kills and 12 digs along with adding two service aces.
The Ball State men's volleyball team continues its two-game MIVA road series at No. 5 Lewis Saturday night at 7 p.m. ET in Neil Carey Arena.
