MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team returns home this weekend in Mid-American Conference action as the Cardinals host the Ohio Bobcats on Friday and Saturday at the Briner Sports Complex with both competitions scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. ET.
The Cardinals (1-3, 1-1 MAC) are coming off a MAC weekend split against Appalachian State in Boone, N.C. Ball State won Friday's game, 2-1. Newcomer Maureen Donegan found the back of the net with two minutes remaining in the second period to knot the game at one apiece at intermission. Donegan's goal against App State was the first of her career as a Cardinal. Then in the third period, sophomore Kerrianne McClay ripped a reverse from the left portion of the circle and found the back of the goal for what proved to be the game winner. BSU dropped the next day's matchup, 1-0.
Ohio (0-2, 0-2 MAC) comes to Muncie after losing a pair of league games at Miami on March 12 (3-0) and on March 13 (1-0). Ball State has won two of the past three meetings against Ohio, including a 3-2 overtime victory on Oct. 5, 2018 in Muncie when current redshirt senior Rachel Pereira scored the game-winning goal in double overtime.
After this weekend, Ball State continues its six-game homestand when it hosts Longwood on March 26 and March 27 with both games scheduled to begin at noon.
