Cardinals Win Second-Straight Match Over IUPUI; Extends Win Streak To Eight

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State men's tennis team earned its eighth consecutive victory in a Monday matinee against the IUPUI Jaguars. On top of it being the Cardinals' eighth straight win, it was also BSU's second-straight defeat over IUPUI in a matter of four days.
Ball State (8-1) is off to one of its best spring starts and have not lost since Jan. 20. The Cardinals took down the Jaguars (3-4) by a score of 6-1 today.
Ball State breezed through doubles, taking courts three and one by a 6-1 decision. First off the court, was three singles, as Danilo Kovacevic alongside his teammate Eli Herran were the first twosome off to finish after beating IUPUI's Eric Hollingsworth and Blessing Benibo.
BSU's top duo of Chris Adams and Vince Orlando clinched the doubles point for the Cardinals after taking down the Jaguars Alex Jochim and Emil Jankowski.
Herran, typically plays his opponents fairly fast as of late and was first off the court after beating Blessing Benibo at the six spot, 6-0, 6-1.
The Cardinals then pushed ahead of the Jaguars 2-0 after Kovacevic rolled to a straight set take down (6-1, 6-4) against Ethan Mardanus-Budio.
For the second-straight match over the Jaguars, it was Thibault De Negri with the game-winner over Alex Jochim at the No. 2 spot, 6-2, 7-5.
The remaining three courts were battling it out, as Sajin Smith won his three-set thriller against Hollingsworth (6-2, 2-6, 6-2).
On court four, Orlando rounded out today's victories after finding himself in a competitive match versus Jankowski. He managed to squeak by in two sets (6-4, 7-5) after being down early on in both frames.
The Ball State men's tennis team continues spring action at home on Thursday against the University of Dayton. First serve is at 2 p.m. at the YMCA.
