Brown Posts Yet Another Double-Double In Monday’s Loss To NIU

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Cardinals' knew today was going to be a challenge especially in the rebounding category in which the Huskies out-rebounded Ball State 36-26. But Ball State head coach Brady Sallee honestly thought the Cardinals were up for the challenge.
Sallee said that when you get smacked on the boards like that it is not a good recipe for the Cardinals to win the ball game. Ball State (9-7, 7-5 MAC) at the end of the day got outplayed by Northern Illinois (10-6, 8-3 MAC) ultimately losing yet another tight contest, 78-74.
It wasn't all bad, senior Oshlynn Brown tallied yet another double-double after scoring 28 points and pulling down 15 rebounds. For her career, Brown now has 985 rebounds and needs just 15 to reach the 1,000-rebound plateau.
The Cardinals weren't shy at the start of the contest forcing NIU to turn the ball over immediately which allowed redshirt sophomore Anna Clephane to score a layup for the first two points of the game.
BSU continued that trend eventually building a seven-point (10-3) edge over the Huskies at the 5:45 mark.
But NIU quickly found its rhythm and went on a 10-0 run to take a 3-point (13-10) lead over BSU with 3:23 left in the first frame.
Both teams would begin trading buckets the remainder of the first quarter to knot the contest at 16 apiece heading into the second frame of action.
After that, it was pretty much and up and down affair. Sure Northern Illinois jumped ahead to an eight-point (32-24) cushion late in the second quarter but Ball State battled its way back with a 5-0 scoring spree that was capped off by a jumper from Clephane to make it just a three-point (32-29) deficit for the Cardinals' at intermission.
Clephane came out on fire after the half, scoring eight-straight points. But her efforts weren't enough despite ending the game as the Cardinals' second highest scorer with 15 points.
NIU continued dominating on the boards which allowed the Huskies to outscore Ball State, 25-17, in the third frame.
Ball State trailed by as many as 10 (67-57) at the five- minute mark in the final stanza.
But the cardiac Cardinals were revived and came back to tie the game at 67-67 with 2:09 on the clock.
BSU would even take the lead back (70-69) with just over a minute remaining after a put-back from Brown but NIU who is known for its scoring, quickly made a jumpshot followed by free throws from the Huskies star player Chelby Koker that in the long run sealed the Huskies outcome.
The Ball State women's basketball team will host Ohio Wednesday for its annual Play4Kay "Think Pink" game in Worthen Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
