Lewis Comes on Strong as Cardinals Take Sixth in Corpus Christi

BSU places three golfers in top 25 on final leaderboard
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- The Ball State women's golf team moved up one spot Tuesday to finish the Islander Classic in sixth place at Corpus Christi Country Club.
Morgan Lewis led the Cardinals with a 2-over 74, the team's low round of the week, in the final round. Only six golfers in the field posted a better score Tuesday than the BSU junior.
Lewis climbed into the top 25 on the final leaderboard along with teammates Liz Kim and Kiah Parrott. Kim, who led the Cardinals in each of the first two rounds Monday, finished one shot ahead of Lewis in a tie for 16th. Parrott, who closed with a 76, finished one shot behind Lewis in a tie for 21st for a second straight top-30 to begin her college career.
Overnight leader Sam Houston extended its margin to win by 10 strokes over tournament host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Sam Houston also featured the individual medalist in Leah Alberto, the nation's top-ranked collegiate golfer, at 1 over par.
Ball State closed with its low round of the week, a 311, to finish the 54-hole event with a total of 946. The Cardinals finished five shots out of fifth place.
BSU will return to action March 15-16 with the Spring Break Shootout at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club in Dade City, Florida.
