- It will be a quick turnaround for the Cardinals against Pitt after hosting PFW Thursday night in Worthen Arena. Originally, the Cardinals were set to play the Mastodons in November but due to a COVID-19 breakout within the PFW women's basketball program that game was canceled and rescheduled for Thursday night.
- Against the Mastodons, the Cardinals led the entire 40 minutes of action due to an up-tempo offense and some fierce defense that set the tone as the Cardinals went on to defeat Purdue Fort Wayne, 86-58, Thursday night in Worthen Arena. Ball State placed three in doubles figures versus PFW with Anna Clephane leading all players with a 20-point performance. Thelma Dis Agustsdottir ended the night with 18 points all of which came from behind the arc after shooting 67 percent (6-of-9) from the 3-point line. Junior Sydney Freeman would round out the double digit scoring with 16.
Behind the Arc:
The Cardinals were on fire from behind the arc against Purdue Fort Wayne shooting a staggering 50 percent (9-of-18). Senior Thelma Dis Agustsdottir made six of the nine for the Cardinals finishing the game with 18 points. Agustsdottir has made six once before in a contest at Buffalo on Feb. 15, 2020.
Agustsdottir Nearing 1,000 Points:
Ball State senior crasher Thelma Dis Agustsdottir is nearing the 1,000 career point plateau. Agustsdottir currently has 941 points and needs 59 to become the 30th member of the 1,000 point club and the ninth under head coach Brady Sallee.
Power Fives:
Ball State 10-th year head coach has eaarned wins over Power 5 programs Minnesota, Iowa, Purdue and Vanderbilt. The last time the Cardinals defeated a Power 5 program happened to be on Nov. 20, 2017 against SEC foe Vanderbilt. If Ball State defeats Pitt, it will be the first win at Ball State over an ACC for Sallee.
Backs, Crashers & Keys:
This year, the Cardinals are forgoing "traditional" positions and using their own such as backs, crashers, and keys, to bring a sense of team unity. That system proved to be the lift Ball State needed, especially with so many new faces on the court. BSU started the season 2-0 for the first time since 2017.
So Far, A lot of Depth:
11 Cardinals saw action in the Cardinals season opener while the starters combined for 58 of Ball State's 84 points, the Cardinals also got 26 points from their bench and 16 rebounds. So far this season the Cardinals bench has scored 147 of the teams 446 points (.329).
