
Ball State Athletics welcomes new Cardinals, elevates current team members

This fall, several new faces joined the Ball State Athletics team across many support units to continue the Onward mentality set forth in the 2019 Strategic Plan while current members of the department earned promotions.
Here's a snapshot of those recently hired and promoted at Ball State:
Adam Barbato – Hired as Director of the Cardinal Varsity Club/Assistant Director of Development
- Will coordinate the day-to-day operations of the annual fund and joins the development team working on United in Flight initiatives
- Most recently worked at Liberty University as the Director of Ticket Sales
- Spent time with Legends Global Sales at the University of Notre Dame
- Earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Ohio University
Mackenzie "Mac" Bosel – Hired as Academic Coordinator
- Will spearhead the academic support for men's and women's basketball along with baseball, cross country and track & field
- Most recently worked at Northeastern University as an Athletic Academic Support Specialist
- Spent time in academics at the University of Cincinnati and development at Xavier University
- Earned a bachelor's degree from Ohio University and a master's from Xavier University
Adam Cap – Hired as Assistant Athletic Trainer
- Will work with baseball primarily and provide secondary support to softball
- Most recently served in a Graduate Assistant role at the University of Memphis
- Spent time as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at Benedictine University and was an intern at Michigan State University
- Earned a bachelor's degree from Northern Illinois University and a master's from the University of Memphis
Andrea Garcia – Hired as Graduate Assistant, Nutrition
- Will assist with nutrition and nutrition education for all of Ball State's 19 sports
- Recently completed her undergraduate work at Ball State University
- Working toward a master's in Nutrition and Dietetics at Ball State University
Josh Grimes – Hired as Graduate Assistant, Marketing and Fan Engagement
- Will support the marketing efforts across the department, coordinate mascot operations and assist in fan experience and game operations
- Recently completed his undergraduate work at Indiana University
- Working toward a master's in Sport Administration at Ball State University
Chad Smith – Hired as Manager, Communications and Branding
- Will serve as communications contact for men's basketball, soccer, women's golf and baseball and support branding efforts for the department
- Most recently was the Assistant Director of Media Relations at the University of Central Arkansas
- Spent time at the University of Florida and the University of Tulsa following a graduate assistantship at Capital University and intern work at Ohio Northern University
- Earned a bachelor's degree from Ohio Northern University and master's from Capital University
Clark Tinder – Hired as Graduate Assistant, Student Development/Administration
- Will support the programming efforts for student-athletes and assist with projects for Athletic Administration
- Recently completed his undergraduate work at Wabash College
- Working toward a master's in Sport Administration at Ball State University
Cody Voga – Hired as Assistant Athletic Director, Athletic Communications
- Moves into the unit director role for athletic communications overseeing the operations and strategy while serving on the department's leadership team
- Comes to Ball State from Auburn University where he was Associate Director for Athletic Communications and primary contact for the men's basketball program and men's golf program and secondary contact for football
- Will serve as primary contact for football, men's golf, track and field and cross country while leading the social media efforts at Ball State University
- Spent time working in athletic communications roles at Pepperdine University, the University of Chicago, DePaul University and the University of Minnesota
- Earned a bachelor's degree from Buena Vista University and a master's from DePaul University
Kelsey Voga – Hired as Assistant Athletic Trainer
- Will provide primary support for track and field and cross country
- Most recently worked at The Orthopedic Clinic in Opelika, Alabama
- Spent time in athletic training at Auburn University and the NBC Camps in Lakewood, Colorado
- Served as an athletic training Graduate Teaching Assistant at Western Illinois University and was an intern for the University of Minnesota athletic department
- Earned a bachelor's degree from Buena Vista University and a master's from Western Illinois University
Dan Wenger – Hired as Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach
- Will assist with the day-to-day responsibilities of football strength and conditioning and is the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for Men's Tennis
- Most recently served as the Associate Director of Sports Performance at Stephen F. Austin State University
- Served as Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at Western Michigan University and was an Offensive Line Graduate Assistant at the University of Florida
- Earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame and master's degrees from the University of Florida and Concordia University-St. Paul
Tyler Worley – Hired as Assistant Manager, Ticket Sales and Service (The Aspire Group)
- In partnership with The Aspire Group, will oversee outbound sales efforts for ticketed sports
- Most recently worked for Aspire in the Lamar University ticket office as Senior Sales and Service Consultant after being promoted from Sales and Service Consultant
- Was a public relations intern for the St. Louis Blues and worked in sports operations/event management for Comcast Spectacor
- Earned a bachelor's degree from Fontbonne University where he played baseball after beginning his collegiate academic and athletic career at Robert Morris University in Chicago.
Matt Brown – Promoted to Assistant Athletic Director, Ticket Services and Revenue Generation
- As a key member of the department's leadership team, spearheads all ticket operations and revenue generation
- Works directly with The Aspire Group on critical relationship
- In the University's third cohort of the LEAD Academy cultivating talents of aspiring leaders
- Originally began his tenure at Ball State University as the Assistant Director of Ticketing and Sales in the fall of 2016 before being promoted to Director of Ticket Sales and Operations
- Was the box office manager at Emens Auditorium on the Ball State University campus prior to joining athletics
- Spent time with the St. Louis Blues as the Director of Client Services and Fan Development
- Earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri
Nate Mathews – Promoted to Equipment Manager
- Will oversee the equipment operations for sport programs originating out of Worthen Arena
- Started at Ball State University in the fall of 2019 as Assistant Equipment Manager
- Came to Ball State University from Moravian College where he served as Equipment Assistant
- Spent time at Eastern Kentucky University as Graduate Assistant and providing equipment room support following an undergraduate student role at Marshall University
- Earned a bachelor's degree from Marshall University and a master's from Eastern Kentucky
Shawn Sullivan – Promoted to Deputy Athletics Director, Marketing and Strategic Initiatives
- A member of the athletic director's executive team, he oversees the marketing, communications and ticket units
- Serves as sport administrator for women's golf, track and field and cross country
- Originally joined the Cardinals in the spring of 2014 as the Director of Marketing. Has also held titles of Assistant Athletic Director of Marketing and Fan Engagement (2015-17) and Associate Athletic Director of Marketing and Fan Engagement (2017-21)
- Prior to Ball State, he was the Director of Sales and Marketing for the Northwestern University athletic department.
- Spent time in external affairs at the University of Illinois at Chicago and in community relations with the Chicago Rush Arena Football club.
- Earned a bachelor's degree from UIC
