Women’s Swimming & Diving Back in Action Saturday at Toledo

MUNCIE, Ind. - - After turning in a pair of strong performances last week, the Ball State women's swimming & diving team returns to action Saturday, when it travels to Toledo for a Noon swim at the Student Recreation Center Pool.
It will be the second straight Mid-American Conference dual meet for the Cardinals (1-1; 0-1 MAC) who are coming off a narrow 153-147 setback to Ohio last Saturday at the Lewellen Aquatic Center.
Despite the team loss, Ball State's student-athlete compiled nine total event victories over the Bobcats, led by two wins apiece from sophomore freestyle specialist Marcella Ribeiro and freshman diver Ashleigh Provan.
One day earlier, the Cardinals claimed 12 total event wins on its way to a 174-84 victory at Eastern Illinois. BSU started the season with a second-place showing among 12 teams at the Indiana Intercollegiate (Oct. 16), winning three events at the competition.
Overall, Ball State's student-athletes have claimed 24 total event victories over the first three meets, including 22 individual and two relay wins. Junior freestyle sprints specialist Apsara Sakbun and freshman backstroke specialist Hannah Jones lead the way with three victories apiece.
IN THE MAC RANKINGS:
In the latest USA Swimming Mid-American Conference Top Times report, the Cardinals have 11 student-athletes ranked in scoring position in their respective events through the first three meets of the season.
In addition, four Cardinals are ranked in the top 16 in the 50 backstroke.

With a score of 276.00 on the 1M diving board in her Lewellen Aquatic Center debut vs. Ohio (Oct. 30), freshman Ashleigh Provan qualified for the 2022 NCAA Zone Diving Championships … The score to beat on the 1M board was 265 … She was also close to a zone cut on the 3M board with her score of 272.63 falling just shy of the qualifying mark of 280.
