Men’s Golf Welcomes Carter Smith To The Cardinal Family

MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State head men's golf coach Mike Fleck, who is in his 23rd season at the helm of the Cardinals, has announced his newest team member with the signing of Carter Smith (Sellersburg, Ind./Silver Creek High School).
"Carter has dominated the top spot in the National Junior Golf Scoreboard rankings over the past couple of years as the #1 ranked player in his class and our state," Fleck said. "He has successfully competed at all levels racking up many accolades in high school golf along with success in junior events around the region and country. Carter is a relentless worker and competitor and will be an excellent addition to a roster full of young talented student-athletes here at Ball State. We are excited for his arrival to campus in the fall."
Smith, a sectional champion for Silver Creek High School, also earned a runner-up spot at the regionals and took home a third-place finish at the 2021 Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) State Finals. Additionally, Smith earned a spot on the 2021 All-State Team.
The 2020 IHSAA boys golf season was cancelled due to the pandemic.
In 2021, Smith registered a sixth place showing at the Gator Invitational having shot three rounds of 74-69-70. Smith was crowned the 2020 Golfweek Junior Tour Vanberbilt Champion after shooting two rounds of 66 and 69. Carter will play his senior season in the spring of 2022.
