Field Hockey Loses Sunday On The Road At VCU
October 24, 2021 | Field Hockey
RICHMOND, Va. - The Ball State field hockey team closed out a long weekend on the road at Virginia Commonwealth Sunday afternoon where fortunately the weather was sunny and in the 70s unlike the weather currently in Indiana. Â
Despite the wonderful playing conditions, the Cardinals fell to VCU by a score of 4-0.Â
With the loss, Ball State falls to 4-12 on the season while Virginia Commonwealth improved to 10-5 overall.Â
Unfortunately, VCU came out strong offensively with 10 total shots in the first 15 minutes of action and would find the back of the cage twice in the opening period. The Rams added another goal prior to intermission to take the 3-0 edge over the Cardinals at the half. Â
After the break, Ball State managed to come out and put a lot of defensive pressure on VCU, holding the Rams to only one more score over the final 30 minutes of action. Â
The Cardinals got a little more aggressive offensively with three shots in the third period, led by Agostina Giudice with two shots, including one on goal. Â
Defensively, Hannah Johnston registered 11 saves and now has 68 for the season. Â
The Ball State field hockey team will close out its Mid-American Conference regular season when it hosts league leader Kent State on Saturday, Oct. 30 at the Briner Sports Complex. The contest is slated to begin at 1 p.m. ET.Â
