Field Hockey Ends 2020 With Successful Fall GPA
January 08, 2021 | Field Hockey
MUNCIE, Ind. The Ball State field hockey team continues to reach new heights in the classroom as the Cardinals ended the 2020 fall semester with a team grade point average of 3.77 on Ball State's 4.0 scale.
Coach Bernthal reflected upon the progress this fall: "We talk a lot in our program about how success is achieved through the discipline we show in the details of life. Those details are on the field and off of it; both matter, and complement each other. In spite of the challenges we faced in 2020, these young women continue to show pride in all that they do, pushing our program to new places. Adversity has brought great things out of each of them and I look forward to how that shows up in competition this spring and in their lives beyond their time at Ball State."
The Cardinals had four student-athletes achieve a perfect 4.0 GPA for the fall term: Halle Baisas (Fr., Exercise Science), Gina Caravaglia (Soph. Psychological Science), Emma Hilton (Fr., Exercise Science) and Callie Rumbaugh (Jr., Exercise Science).
Seven more Cardinals earned a 3.8 or better term GPA: Grace Chavez (Sr., Teaching Major), Abigail Ferenczy (Sr., Business Administration), Caitlyn Grodzicki (Soph., Pre-Nursing), Jenna McKune (Sr., Premedical Preparation), Angel Nkosi (So., Premedical Preparation), Rachel Pereira (RSr., Geography), and Audrey Tabor (Sr., Exercise Science).
Over half of the squad holds a 3.6 Cumulative GPA or higher, showing the consistent pursuit of academic excellence within the program.
The Ball State field hockey team's highly anticipated 2020-21 season that was postponed this fall due to the COVID-19 global pandemic will begin the weekend of March 12-23 with games at Appalachian State. The following weekend, Ball State opens its home slate against Ohio (March 19-20) at the Briner Sports Complex.
