Trio of Cardinals Tabbed MAC Distinguished Scholar Athletes

Football players Blackwell, Ekpe, Plitt earn recognition
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Three members of the MAC and Arizona Bowl champion Ball State football team were named to the annual MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete list for the fall.

Right tackle Curtis Blackwell, outside linebacker Anthony Ekpe and quarterback Drew Plitt each earned the recognition. Blackwell was honored for the second year in a row.Â

The Cardinals accounted for three of the 11 football players to make the fall sport list. This year's list included only football and men's and women's cross country. The rest of the league's fall sports have been moved to the spring.

The Distinguished Scholar Athlete award honors the "best of the best" from each sport, featuring all student-athletes who were recognized as both All-MAC and Academic All-MAC selections and who have maintained a GPA of at least 3.5.

The MAC will announce the Distinguished Scholar Athletes from winter and spring sports after each of those seasons is completed.
