Favorite Four: Michelle Shampton - Field Hockey - Ball State University Athletics

Photos play an important role in everyone's life, allowing us to relive some of our fondest memories and reminding us of special people, places or stories from our past.

Our student-athletes are no different, and over the coming weeks we will highlight some of their favorite images captured during their time as Cardinals.

From battling it out on the field of competition, to just hanging out with their teammates, you will get a glimpse of some of the special moments in our student-athletes' lives in a new feature called "Favorite Four."

Ball State field hockey graduate Michelle Shampton (2015-19):

Ball State's leading goal scorer in each of the last two seasons, Michelle Shampton (2015-19) finished her career with 14 goals and nine assists for 37 career points. After suffering a season-ending injury just four games into her freshman season (2015), Shampton rebounded to be a huge offensive threat for the Cardinals over the next four seasons.

A four-time career Academic All-MAC honoree, Shampton was named the MAC Player of the Week after scoring the game-winning goal in the final minute of Ball State's 2019 senior day victory over Appalachian State (more on that below).

"Round 1 - Freshman Year"

Freshman Year: This photo shows me dodging a Lafayette player during the second game of my collegiate career. I started all four games for the Cardinals before tearing my ACL the day before our first home game. Luckily, I was eligible to receive a redshirt year because of my injury, allowing me one extra season to play.

"Round 2 - Redshirt Freshman Year"

Redshirt Freshman Year: This was my first season coming off of an ACL injury that ended my freshman field hockey season. Every year, our team hosts a "Think Pink" game to honor Breast Cancer Awareness. This photo shows me dribbling to the circle to try and score against La Salle.

"Round 3 - Redshirt Sophomore Year"

Redshirt Sophomore Year: This photo captures me inserting on one of the four corners we had during our game against Saint Louis University. Our team scored off of this play, giving us the first goal of the game. We ended up winning 5-0.

"Round 4 - Redshirt Junior Year"

Redshirt Junior Year: This photo was taken after scoring the second goal of the game against UC Davis. This put us at 2-0 at the end of the first quarter.

"BONUS ROUND - Redshirt Senior Year"

Redshirt Senior Year: I've always been known for my expressions and celebrations when our team scores. This was taken after scoring the game-winner on my senior night against Appalachian State with 48 seconds left in the game. This win secured us the fourth seed in the MAC Tournament.
