MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team closed out the 2019-2020 academic year on a high note after posting a 3.75 team spring grade point average on Ball State's 4.0 scale.
"I appreciate the drive for excellence by our field hockey student-athletes," Ball State field hockey coach Stephanie Bernthal said. "This term was full of unexpected things and, as they always do, they took it all in stride and rose to the challenge. They continue to show that the best comes out of them when faced with adversity. I am proud of that toughness on and off the field."
Five Cardinals wrapped up the spring with a perfect 4.0 GPA, freshman Gina Caravaglia (psychology & honors college), senior Haley Jolly (marketing), sophomore Callie Rumbaugh (exercise science), graduate student Michelle Shampton (masters in public relations with a concentration in leadership) and junior Audrey Tabor (exercise science).
The Ball State field hockey team had 12 student-athletes achieve a 3.8 GPA or higher and 22 student-athletes with a 3.5 GPA or higher.
The Cardinals would like to congratulate their May graduates, Sierra Jefferson, Haley Jolly, Alison McMullen, Arantxa Rosainz Caloca and Hilliary Scott. Jefferson and Rosainz Caloca graduated Magna Cum Laude which at Ball State requires the student-athlete to have completed 120 credits and have acquired a 3.8 to 3.899 GPA upon graduation. Jefferson will return to finish her last year of eligibility this fall as a graduate student.Â
After the 2019 season, the Cardinals placed nine members on the 2019 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team. BSU had 16 players garner NFHCA (National Field Hockey Coaches Association) national academic honors along with having three players Caitlyn Grodzicki, junior Jenna McKune and senior Arantxa Rosainz Caloca all earning the 2019 Zag Field Hockey/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I Scholars of Distinction honor.
