April 07, 2020 | Women's Basketball
CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Ball State women's basketball team placed six members on the 2020 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team, which was announced by the league office today.
Graduate senior Jasmin Samz was named to the team for the third straight year, while senior Aliyah Walker earned the honor for the second straight season. Both Samz and Walker earned their degrees from Ball State at the 2019 summer commencement.
Senior Arbrie Benson, sophomores Thelma Dis Agustsdottir and Blake Smith, and redshirt freshman Anna Clephane were all first-year recipients.
Ball State was one of five MAC teams to have six honorees. The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
Ball State's 13-game turnaround this season led all NCAA Division I women's basketball programs and ranked among the top 30 turnarounds in NCAA history. The Cardinals ended the season with a 21-10 overall record.Â
Ball State earned the No. 2 seed in the 2020 Mid-American Conference Tournament with a 13-5 league record, marking the sixth time in head coach Brady Sallee's tenure the Cardinals earned a bye and punched their ticket straight to Cleveland.Â
