Ball State Outsmarts Yale 10-4
March 06, 2020 | Baseball
CHARLESTON, S.C. - Ball State took an early lead and controlled the entire game in a 10-4 win over Yale on Friday. It was the first of four games at the Swig & Swine Classic at Shipyard Park. BSU will play Sacred Heart Friday night.
Chase Sebby hit a 3-run home run in the top of the 1st and Ball State took over from there. That's all John Baker would need, as the Cardinals' ace struck out seven over 7.0 innings while allowing two runs and scattering seven hits.Â
"We played our most complete game of the season today," head coach John Baker said. "Getting seven strong innings from John Baker was great and we made some excellent plays on defense. And our bats got going - Chase's homer gave us a big lift."
With the Cardinals leading 3-2 in the 4th inning, Trenton Quartermaine - batting leadoff for the first time - hit a 2-run single as BSU got three more runs to lead 6-2.Â
Two hits, a walk and a sac bunt in the 5th made it 7-2 and the Cards scored more late to make it a rout. Noah Navarro hit an RBI double in the 9th and Ryan Peltier added an RBI single to make it 10-2 late in the game.
That was more than enough offense for Baker, who earned his first win of the year and 18th of his career. Zach Losey finished the win, getting the final six outs and striking out four.
Ball State (4-8) will play Sacred Heart at 7:30 p.m. Friday night.
