Kim’s Top-10 Leads Women’s Golf to Sixth at Rio Verde

Cardinals beat five of other seven MAC teams competing in Arizona
LEADERBOARD
RIO VERDE, Ariz. -- Led by another strong performance from Liz Kim, the Ball State women's golf team placed among the top third of an 18-team field at the Rio Verde Invitational.
The Cardinals finished the tournament in sixth place Sunday after a Saturday washout forced a 36-hole marathon to close it out. BSU turned in matching rounds of 302 on the final day to finish with a 54-hole total of 909 (+45).
Arkansas State (+16) overtook first-round leader Xavier early on Sunday and cruised to a 12-stroke victory over MAC program Northern Illinois (+28). Akron edged Ball State for fifth place and was the only other MAC school of the eight competing to defeat the Cardinals.
Kim closed with rounds of 72 and 74 to climb into a tie for ninth place on the final leaderboard with a total of 223 (+7). She also led Ball State in the opening event of the spring with a runner-up finish at the Battle at Boulder Creek. Kim played the par-5's in 2 under for the week, the second-best of anyone in the 95-player field.
Manon Tounalom gave Ball State a second top-20 finisher, tying for 18th place, two strokes behind Kim. In four career appearances at Rio Verde, Tounalom never finished worse than 26th.
Tiegan Taylor also provided a consistent performance for the Cardinals, counting in all three rounds with a trio of 77's. She tied for 38th.
Ball State will return to action March 9-10 at the Jackrabbit Invitational. The event will be played at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Neveda, the same site where the Cardinals opened the spring season two weeks ago.
