Men’s Tennis Loses 4-3 Battle At Valparaiso

VALPARAISO, Ind. - The Cardinals (5-4) once again opened their match on a high note today, by taking yet another, doubles point from their respective opponent. Despite taking the early 1-0 edge over the Crusaders (4-3), Ball State couldn't finish in singles action, losing the match, 4-3 Friday afternoon at the NWI courts.
Ball State has taking eight straight doubles points away from its opposition. The Cardinals No. 1 duo of Chris Adams and Vince Orlando topped the charts as they were the first twosome off the court, after posting a 7-5 defeat over Valparaiso's Brian Pecyna and Brandon Ancona. After that, Thibault de Negri alongside his No. 2 doubles partner Parrish Simmons clinched the doubles competition with their 6-2 take down over Daniel Langston and Philipp Leithold.
Valparaiso began to take charge in singles play taking wins from Ball State on courts two, four, and one to quickly move to a 3-1 advantage over the Cardinals with three courts remaining. Finally, Orlando came through with a three-set thrilling match at the No. 3 position. He won the first frame 6-3 over Gabriel Carvajal but then dropped the second, 6-4. Orlando then took the last set from Carvajal, 6-4, to secure Ball State's second point of the match.
After that, the Crusaders' Oscar Mendoza took match five from Ball State's Eli Herran in three sets to claim the winning point for Valparaiso. Ball State's Bryce Bonin finished his match for the Cardinals at the No. 6 slot, beating Franklin Brozovich, 5-7, 6-4, 6-3.
The Ball State men's tennis team returns to Muncie Sunday, March 1 to host a double bill against Indiana University Southeast at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. at the Northwest YMCA Tennis Center.
