March 01, 2020 | Men's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State men's tennis team swept a doubleheader Sunday, as the Cardinals beat IU Southeast by a score of 7-0 in both matches at the Muncie Northwest YMCA. The team's overall record improved to 7-4 with the win.
The Cardinals opened the day capturing both doubles points from the Grenaiders. Danilo Kovacevic made his return into the lineup after sitting out due to an injury. Kovacevic teamed up with Abe Wojtalik at the No. 3 doubles position. The twosome clinched the first point of the first match for the Cardinals after defeating Sebastian and Cade Burman, 6-1. In the evening competition, the Muncie hometown duo of Alec Robillard and Khamasi Muhiga claimed the doubles point after defeating Daulton Fensler and Jerid Inman 6-1 at No. 3 doubles.
Ball State also dominated in singles action taking all seven courts from the Grenaiders in the early competition. Muhiga downed Cade Burman in straight sets both by a score of 6-2 at position six that declared winning point for Ball State. The Cardinals went on to take the next three courts from IU Southeast resulting in the Cardinals sweep.
In the night cap against the Grenaiders, Bryce Bonin continued the winning trend after flying by Daulton Fensler at the No. 5 slot. Bonin was the first off the court after not giving up a game to win 6-0, 6-0. After that, it was like a domino affect as the Cardinals registered victories on the remaining five courts.
The Ball State men's tennis team will spend its spring break in California for the second-straight year. The Cardinals will compete against Pepperdine in San Diego on Thursday at 6 p.m. PT/9 p.m. ET.
