Women's Basketball Heads To Toledo For Mid-Week MAC West Rivalry Game

Opening Tip:
- The Rockets and the Cardinals will be facing off for the first time this season. Tonight's game marks the 83rd time the two schools have met with Toledo leading the all-time series
record 57-25.
- Ball State and Toledo's first meeting ever was in 1980-81, that year the Cardinals defeated the Rockets by a score of 63-47.
- From 2013-14, Ball State had won six in a row over Toledo, marking it the longest win streak in program history over the Rockets. The Cardinals last defeated Toledo in 2017-18 by a score of 78-73 on Feb. 24 in Worthen Arena.
- The last time Ball State won in Savage Arena was on Dec. 31, 2017 when the Cardinals opened up its MAC season with a 51-45 victory over the Rockets. Ball State's last conference series sweep over Toledo was the 2015-16 season.
- Both teams are coming off wins from this past Saturday, with the Cardinals defeating Akron, 60-52, and Toledo earning a 78-62 road win at Buffalo. Ball State is looking for its first road win since an 86-80 overtime win at Bowling Green on Jan. 8.
- With eight games left, Ball State sits currently in second place in the MAC West Division standings while Toledo is a game behind sitting in third. Ball State is also in second place in the overall MAC standings as well. Central Michigan leads both divisions with an unblemished conference mark of 11-0.
Chirpie Notes:
- The Cardinals remained undefeated in Mid-American Conference action at home last week after earning a 60-52 win over Akron Saturday in Worthen Arena. Ball State was led by sophomore forward Blake Smith who had 10 points while Arbrie Benson came off the bench to score eight points and pull down a career best 10 rebounds.
- The last time the Cardinals went undefeated in MAC play at home was the 2008-09 season. That year Ball State wrapped up league action with an 8-0 mark. Currently, Ball State's 5-0 MAC home record is the best ledger since the 2008-09 season.
- Under eighth year head coach Brady Sallee, the Cardinals own a 34-22 (.607) record in MAC play in their last eight conference games.
1,000 Points, 1,000 Rebounds:
- Junior Oshlynn Brown is currently has 948 career points and 724 rebounds. Brown needs 52 points to reach the 1,000 points and she needs 276 rebounds to hit 1,000. Brown will become only the second player in Ball State women's basketball history to reach 1,000 points and rebounds. Former Cardinal Emma Jones (1984-87) so far is the lone player in program history to get 1,000 points and rebounds.
Scouting Toledo:
- For the 12th season, the Rockets are led by head coach Tricia Cullop who is a 1993 graduate of Purdue University. Cullop came to Toledo after spending eights years as the head coach of Evansville. Cullop owns an overall coaching record of 375-243 (.606).
- Tricia Cullop owns a 4-3 MAC regular season record over Brady Sallee when the Rockets play at home in Savage Arena. Toledo has also won five of the last six meetings between the two programs.
- Toledo and Ball State last met in the first round of the 2019 MAC Tournament in Savage Arena on March 11. The Rockets won that game 67-63. It marked the third time the two schools had faced each other in MAC Tourney play.
- Much like the Cardinals, the Rockets have only two players averaging double figures. Nakiah Black leads the squad with 13 points per contest while Mariella Santucci scores 10.6 points a game. Santucci also leads the Rockets defensively averaging 6.0 rebounds per game.
