Brandon Martin up for Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year Award

After missing last season, Cardinals linebacker ranks sixth nationally in tackles per game
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State inside linebacker Brandon Martin has been named to the watch list for the Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year Award.

The redshirt junior from Indianapolis is one of 42 players nationally on the latest watch list announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) in association with The Associated Press (AP) and the Fiesta Bowl Organization.

Martin returned to the field in 2020 after sustaining a season-ending injury in the 2019 opener against Indiana. He ranks sixth nationally with 12.3 tackles per game, having registered more than 10 stops each time out. He leads the MAC in solo tackles with 26.

Also a nominee for the 2020 Wuerffel Trophy, Martin was named MAC West Division Defensive Player of the Week two weeks ago after a registering career-high 15 tackles in the win over Eastern Michigan.

Semifinalists for the Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year Award will be announced in mid-December. Three winners will be announced in conjunction with the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl held on Jan. 2, 2021.

Martin has helped Ball State to a 3-1 start to this year's shortened, six-game season. The Cardinals visit 3-1 Central Michigan in a key MAC West Division showdown Saturday at 5:30 p.m. on ESPNU and 104.1 WLBC.
