Annual award honors nation’s best mid-major player
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State fifth-year senior Tahjai Teague was one of 50 players nationally named to the midseason watch list for the Lou Henson Award, presented annually to the top mid-major player in the country.
Â
Teague was one of four MAC players named to the list, joining Eugene German of Northern Illinois, Marreon Jackson of Toledo and Antonio Williams of Kent State.
Â
The Indianapolis product is averaging a career-best 13.9 points per game while leading the Cardinals in rebounding (7.9 rpg), steals (1.7 spg), blocks (1.4 bpg) and field goal percentage (.524). He ranks among the top 10 in the MAC in all four of those categories.
Â
Teague scored a season-high 25 points Tuesday, leading Ball State to an 88-68 victory over defending MAC champion Buffalo for a 2-0 start to league play. The Cardinals face their first league road test Friday at fellow MAC-unbeaten Akron with a 9 p.m. tip on CBS Sports Network.
Â
Lou Henson, the winningest coach at both Illinois and New Mexico State, won 775 games in 41 seasons. He is one of only 11 coaches to take two different schools to the NCAA Final Four. The Lou Henson Award will be announced in April in Atlanta, Georgia, site of this year's Final Four.
