Goetz creates executive staff, announces promotions
MUNCIE, Ind. – Following a year that showcased several successes – highlighted by a record-high overall grade point average of 3.27, the approval of an indoor practice facility and more than $12.4 Million of commitments in support of student-athletes – the Ball State athletics department is already flying forward toward lofty goals for 2019-20 and beyond.
Director of Athletics Beth Goetz has announced the release of Onward, the strategic plan that will guide the athletic department toward those goals through 2024.
Goetz, now in her second year with the Cardinals, also announced an updated organizational structure which includes new staff members and position elevations.
"Onward provides us a clear blueprint to achieve our ambitious goals. The robust feedback received from so many through its development has allowed us to create priorities that align with our mission: We are committed to the pursuit of excellence, the life-long success of our student-athletes, and to serving as a source of pride and engagement for the Ball State community. Our coaches and leadership team are truly excited about the path forward."
On the personnel front, Dr. Karin Lee has been promoted to Deputy Athletics Director, Internal Operations/Senior Woman Administrator. On staff since 2007, Lee will oversee all internal units while serving as sport administrator for a number of Ball State programs.
Lee will be part of a newly-created executive team which will also feature Haven Fields, who was recently hired as Deputy Athletics Director, External Operations. Fields will assist in fundraising efforts, have oversight of football and other sports, as well as coordinate the management of all external areas. Rounding out the executive team will be Shawn Sullivan, Associate Athletics Director, Marketing and Fan Engagement, entering his sixth year with the Cardinals. Sullivan will now lead the collaboration of the strategic communication and marketing teams.
The leadership team has been reprogrammed to include unit directors and now features the following: Matt Brown – Director, Ticket Operations and Sales; Michael Clark – Associate Athletics Director, Strategic Communications; Megan Davis – Executive Director, Student-Athlete Support Services; Brad Edmondson – Executive Director, Development; Joe Hernandez – Associate Athletics Director, Sport and Alumni Relations; Neal Hazen – Head Athletic Trainer; Ryne Hillenberg – Director, Compliance; Stephanie Martin – Assistant Athletics Director – Business/Human Resources; and Josh Pawlus – Director, Game Operations.
