Women’s Golf Shakes Slow Start to Take Overnight Lead at Cardinal Classic

Cardinals lead IUPUI by three shots entering Tuesday’s final round at The Players Club

YORKTOWN, Ind. -- The Ball State women's golf team started slowly but turned it on Monday afternoon to grab the day one lead at the Cardinal Classic.
Ball State's second-round 294 was the best of any team in the field by five strokes and helped the Cardinals overcome a score of 305 in the morning. BSU trailed IUPUI by 11 strokes after 18 holes but leads the Jaguars by three through 36.
The Cardinals are ahead of the other three MAC squads in the 11-team field at The Players Club and are leading a Bradley squad that edged them for second place at last week's Redbird Invitational.
Tiegan Taylor and Hadley Moritz led Ball State's afternoon charge with even-par rounds of 72, while the team also counted a 73 from Manon Tounalom and a 77 from Morgan Lewis.
Taylor (+4) is tied for third place at 4 over par in her first home event for Ball State, while Tounalom (+5) is tied for fifth. All five players in the BSU lineup are among the top 20 in the field of 69 golfers. IUPUI features the top two players on the leaderboard in Marion DeBove (-5) and Amelie Svedja (-4).
The third and final round of the annual event will be played Tuesday. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
