Cardinals Sweep MAC Soccer Player of the Week Awards
August 27, 2019 | Soccer
MUNCIE, Ind. – After two impressive wins to open the 2019 season, the Ball State soccer team swept the Mid-American Conference's weekly awards with Grace Alsop being named Offensive Player of the Week and Tristin Stuteville winning Defensive Player of the Week.
Alsop led the Cardinals to a 6-0 victory over Eastern Illinois by recording the first hat trick at Ball State since 2011. She totaled five shots against the Panthers, and all three that she put on goal she scored. Later, against Marquette, Alsop put one shot on goal in a 1-0 victory.
Alsop is the only player in the MAC to have a hat trick, and the only one to score more than one goal. She leads the league with six points through the opening weekend of play. Her totals for the weekend include six shots, four shots on goal, an on-goal percentage of .667, three goals, one game winning goal, and 118 minutes played.
Stuteville led Ball State to a perfect opening weekend by earning a pair of shutouts to defeat Eastern Illinois 6-0 on Friday and Marquette 1-0 on Sunday. Stuteville is the only MAC goalkeeper to go 2-0-0 and earn clean sheets in both contests.
The Kansas City native faced four shots against Big East foe Marquette on Sunday and saved every one in addition to her one save against Eastern Illinois. Stuteville played all 180 minutes in goal for the Cardinals on opening weekend as she continues to climb the ladder in the Ball State record book toward most shutouts and most wins.
The Cardinals are back in action Thursday when they welcome Illinois State to town. Loyola also visits Muncie Sunday afternoon.
