Most by any team in the MAC
CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – A program record six Ball State women's golfers were recently named All-American Scholars by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA). The six selections were the most by any team in the Mid-American Conference.
UNC Greensboro was the only team in Division I to find more student-athletes on this list than Ball State as the Spartans had seven golfers earn this prestigious recognition. Ball State joined Cincinnati, Harvard, Quinnipiac, Rutgers, UALR, Wyoming and Xavier with six selections.
The selection criteria to the WGCA All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. Student-athletes must have a minimum cumulative 3.5 GPA and played in 50 percent of the team's regularly scheduled competitive rounds.
Named to this year's squad were freshmen Dylann Armstrong (North Gower, Ontario), Morgan Lewis (Fishers, Indiana) and Hadley Moritz (Wheaton, Illinois), along with sophomores Liz Kim (Dublin, Ohio) and Emily Knouff (Fort Loramie, Ohio). Rounding out the final spot was junior Manon Tounalom (Buchelay, France). This is the second straight season Kim, Knouff and Tounalom earned the honor.
Armstrong, a family and child major, finished her rookie season with a 3.933 GPA. She competed in nine events while managing a 79.33 scoring average over 18 stroke play rounds.
Lewis finished the school year with a 3.667 GPA in psychology. The Indiana native competed in all 12 events, including 11 as part of the Ball State lineup. Her best finish came at the Cardinal Classic where she placed eighth.
Moritz owns a 3.935 GPA in elementary education. She made appearances in all 12 competitions for the Cardinals, appearing 11 times in the lineup. Moritz ended the season with a 78.83 scoring average over 30 stroke play rounds while finishing in the top 25 in four of her five starts.
Kim boasts the highest GPA on the team with a 3.97 in psychology. She played in all but one round in the Cardinals' 12 events this season, finishing second on the team with a 77.27 scoring average over 30 stroke play rounds.
Knouff carries a 3.685 GPA in nursing. She along with Kim and Tounalom recently earned Academic All-MAC honors as well. Knouff played in all 12 events for the Cardinals, having her best career finish after tying for 15th at The Fall Preview.
Tounalom boasts a 3.625 GPA in finance. The junior led Ball State with a 75.85 scoring average over 27 stroke play rounds while posting top-20 finishes in six of her nine tournament starts.
The women's golf team was one of eight Ball State teams to post a team GPA of 3.5 or higher in the spring semester.
