Cardinals earn ABCA Academic Excellence Award
Ball State baseball has earned high marks in the classroom again, earning the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award from the American Baseball Coaches Association. To earn distinction, a team had to earn a 3.0 team GPA.
The Cardinals had 18 players earn a 3.0 GPA or better (13 at 3.20 or better) during the 2019 spring semester, when the team went 38-19 and 20-5 in conference play. Ball State has earned the honor in each of the last four years, placing it among the highest-achieving baseball teams in the country:
According to the ABCA, more than 300 college and high school programs earned the award. That includes 209 schools from across all divisions of college baseball.
In addition to classroom success and 38 wins, Ball State had two pitchers drafted, had the MAC Pitcher and Defensive Player of the Year and led the nation in strikeouts per 9 innings.
