Glant earns spot in Yankees organization after Cardinals set strikeout records
Ball State assistant coach Dustin Glant, who helped the Cardinals' pitching staff to numerous records, has accepted a position with the New York Yankees organization.
Â
"Dustin did a great job here at Ball State and we're very happy for him," head coach Rich Maloney said. "Personally, as a friend, I'll miss him and our team will miss him."
Â
"I'm very thankful for the opportunity to coach under Rich Maloney at a great university that really supports its baseball program," Glant said. "I was fortunate to work with high-quality guys and I benefited so much from Rich's guidance and support. I'm fortunate to have gotten the chance to be at Ball State and be around the players I love. I'm excited for the next chapter and I'll definitely be following the Cardinals in the future."
Â
Glant, a Fort Wayne native who pitched six seasons in the Arizona Diamondbacks system among other stops in professional baseball, was BSU's pitching coach for the last three seasons. The Cardinals set a school record for strikeouts in each of those three seasons and led the nation in Ks per nine innings this year (11.1). BSU has won 100 games over the last three seasons, including a 38-19 mark this year.
Â
Ball State has a long tradition of placing players in the professional ranks, ranking first in the state of Indiana with eight first round MLB picks. Two Ball State pitchers were selected in the 2019 draft, including MAC Pitcher of the Year Drey Jameson by Arizona in the first round.
Â
A national search for a new assistant baseball coach is underway.
